About MapperX

MapperX solar PV inspection technology

Solar-only inspection technology, accredited to IEC 62446-3.

MapperX builds software for one job: finding and reporting faults in photovoltaic power plants. We are the first IEC 62446-3 accredited solar inspection platform, and we work exclusively on solar PV — no wind turbines, no construction sites, no generic asset inspection. This page explains who we are, why we specialise, and what stands behind that accreditation.

What MapperX Does

MapperX is a software company that develops a drone-based thermographic inspection and reporting platform for solar PV plants. Operations and O&M teams upload radiometric thermal imagery captured by drone; the platform detects module-level faults with AI, maps them to a digital model of the plant, and produces IEC 62446-3 compliant inspection reports.

The product itself lives on two pages: solar panel inspection software covers the product, and the MapperX platform covers the full workflow from capture to report. This page is about the company behind them.

Why We Only Work on Solar

Most drone inspection platforms serve many industries at once — wind, roofing, powerlines, construction — and treat solar as one vertical among many. We made the opposite choice. A hotspot, a bypass-diode failure and potential-induced degradation each leave a distinct thermal signature, and telling them apart reliably takes detection models trained only on PV data, classification aligned with IEC 62446-3 anomaly definitions, and reporting built for how solar O&M contracts and warranty claims actually work.

Specialisation is also why the platform can go deeper than inspection alone: string and panel numbering, electrical infrastructure records, serial-number capture and periodic test scheduling all assume a solar plant — because that is the only asset type MapperX will ever model.

Accredited to IEC 62446-3, Not Just Compliant

Many inspection tools state that their reports “comply with” IEC 62446-3, the international standard for outdoor thermographic inspection of PV plants. Compliance is a self-declaration. Accreditation is different: an external body assesses the inspection methodology, measurement handling and reporting against the standard before the claim can be made. MapperX holds IEC 62446-3 accreditation, which makes it the first solar inspection platform accredited to the standard.

For plant owners this has a practical consequence: inspection reports produced with MapperX are backed by an externally verified process — relevant when a report supports an insurance claim, a warranty case or a commissioning handover.

The Team Behind the Platform

MapperX is built by an in-house engineering team working across four disciplines: PV systems engineering, radiometric thermography, photogrammetry, and machine learning. The same team reviews the technical content we publish and defines how anomaly classes map to IEC 62446-3 definitions inside the product.

Detection models are developed and validated in-house; ongoing work on thermal AI and PV fault detection is documented on our R&D page.

Where MapperX Is Used

MapperX serves solar operations teams internationally. The platform interface and PDF reports are available in 11+ languages, including English, Deutsch, Français, Español, Português, Italiano, Nederlands, Türkçe, Bahasa Indonesia, 中文 and 日本語.

Field capture is built around widely used thermal drones — DJI Mavic 3T, Matrice 30T, Matrice 4T and the Matrice 300 with H20T/H30T payloads — so most solar O&M teams can fly inspections with hardware they already own.
